Nexodyne Web Design Competition
- by Biddykins on Aug 05, 2008 - 8:33 AM
Nexodyne Web Design Competition!

Yeah I forgot about this for a long time, sorry, haha, but now we can get it going properly.

Rules:
  • Entrants will design a webpage (only one is needed, but a full site will be needed from the winner) following the description below.
  • Site may be designed/programmed/etc with any software you like, in any language, etc
  • Site will need to include a logo of some sort.
  • No frames, nobody likes frames.
  • Eventual winner will need to be competent in programming, PHP most likely, and able to accomplish the following tasks. Programming a database which will be entered into and altered via the website, linking the site up to paypal (both taking and giving money), and timers (eBay style). If you can't do this I'm sure we could work something out, and you'll still get credit for the website design.
  • Website should have a sleek, professional look about it, as if a professional web designer did it, but not overly clean and boring looking, just a pleasant looking site.
  • All entries must be in by September 1st, 2008. Entries will then be judged by me and an independent judge, and the winner announced by October 1st, 2008.

Site Description:
The site you're designing for is an online raffle site. For example, 'how many beans are in the jar', people take a guess, enter via paypal (say, $2) or something, and the person who correctly guesses how many beans were in the jar wins a PS3 or whatever. the site will need a small box for 'prizes recently given out' i.e. www.somethingstore.com's Something Tracker, something like that. Keep all this in mind when designing.

The Important Part: The Prize!
The winner will receive a 50 US dollar cash prize, as well as credit on the website on every page. I.e. 'designed by X' a... [read more]

Faster Nexodyne
- by Iridium on Jun 12, 2008 - 7:21 AM
As many of you may have noticed, Nexodyne is occasionally rather slow the first time you view it each day.

During a moment of inspiration, I think I worked out what's making it so slow, and I'm pretty sure I have fixed the problem.

From now on, the site should no longer suffer from really slow page loading each day, but if it does, please PM me.

Super Dreamhost Invitations
- by Iridium on Jun 08, 2008 - 12:52 PM
Super Dreamhost Invitations

I happen to have FIVE special Dreamhost invitations, which give you 4 times the usual bandwidth and disk space. These limits also increase by 2GB/month for disk space, and 40GB/month for bandwidth!

That's 2TB of disk space
and
20TB of bandwidth per month!

You also get a free domain name registration, and a multitude of other features. For details, click here.

All this is just $10.95/month if you pay monthly (plus a $49.95 setup fee). If you pay for a year or more in advance, there's no setup fee, and the equivalent monthly fees are lower. Moreover with these invitations, if you pay for 5 years in advance, you get an extra $150 off, and $200 off if you pay for 10 years in advance. (Full pricing details here).

Obviously, these are pretty special invitations, so I'm only giving them out to people that seriously want them. If you sign up but then cancel then the invitation is wasted and it can't be given to someone else. So no time wasters please.

This offer is also only valid for 2 weeks!

To get one of these invitations, please PM me, but make sure you've read over all of the hosting features first.

If you want to ask any questions, please use this thread, but bear in mind that these invitations are valid for just 2 weeks!

Nexodyne Game Sprite Design Competition!

Nexodyne Game Sprite Design Competition!

I've been tossing this idea around for a while now, and since I've finally gotten around to actually programming the game, I thought it was time to post the contest.

Rules:
  • Entrants will design a sprite for a game, following the character description below.
  • Game will be a side scrolling, 16 bit kind of feel, so keep this in mind when designing, no 3DSMax models and stuff, just good old photoshop, or even paint, whatever.
  • Sprite will be no larger than 200x200 pixels. This may change later though, so if you'd all like to make a bigger version as well (say 500x500 or whatnot) that'd be great.
Entrants may design as many sprites as they like.
  • There must be 3 different movements for the sprite pictured, these again will be described below.

Character description:
The character is a small, lovable, kirby type blob. He's intended to be yellow, and I'd prefer if you did keep him yellow, but if you really want to make him a different colour go for it. The 3 sprites I'll need (probably 4 actually) are a walking sprite (probably best to make 2 sprites, one with each foot forward, to make the walking animation work better, or if you don't give him feet then of him shuffling or whatever), a jumping sprite (he'll need his head, arm, or something extended so he can destroy thins above him believably), and a butt bouncing sprite (think mickey mouse on the old Castle Of Illusion, legs tucked, ass out, ready to squish someone, with some kind of lines or something about him indicating hes going down).

The Important Part: The Prize!
The winner will receive a 50 currency cash prize (currency meaning dollars, pounds, whatever your currency is), as well as a mention in the credits of the game as a designer, as well as an appearance ... [read more]
